Nguy\u1ec5n Qu\u1ed1c Th\u00e0nh & Nh\u00e0 S\u00e0n Collective<\/strong> exhibition<\/h2>\n\n

What is it about?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The exhibition Let’s Sleep and We’ll See<\/em> is an artistic story about memory, queer, sleep and migration, prepared by Nguy\u1ec5n Qu\u1ed1c Th\u00e0nh – a Hanoi-based artist and curator – in collaboration with Nh\u00e0 S\u00e0n Collective. The installation, prepared especially for the Lodz of Many Cultures Festival, transforms the museum halls into a templarium<\/em>, or \u201ctemple of sleep\u201d – a space suspended between countries, languages and identities. <\/p>\n\n

The exhibition combines films, images, textiles and archives to create a complex narrative about the Vietnamese diaspora’s experience in Poland, queer stories and sensitivity to the past. It is a journey through fantasy and documentary, memory and future, between Vietnam and Poland – and what remains in between. <\/p>\n\n

An important part of the project is also an insight into the collective art practice of the Nh\u00e0 S\u00e0n Collective, a Hanoi-based independent initiative working at the intersection of art, activism and everyday life.<\/p>\n\n

By whom?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Nguy\u1ec5n Qu\u1ed1c Th\u00e0nh<\/strong> \u2013 artist, curator, co-founder of Nh\u00e0 S\u00e0n Collective in Hanoi. In 2013, he founded the Queer Forever! festival, which has become an ongoing project, a pop-up cinema, a book and zine workshop, a kitchen, a space for queer people to meet, listen, watch, make art and love. Th\u00e0nh has participated in performance art festivals, exhibitions and conferences in Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, the US and Vietnam. He spent many years in Poland, co-founding, among other things, the Five Flavors Asian Film Festival in Warsaw, and spent his first year living in Lodz, where he learned Polish. In 2022, he co-created the \u01b0h\u01b0h22 project, which was part of the Nh\u00e0 S\u00e0n Collective’s work at the 15th documenta in Kassel. At the time, he also exhibited at TRAFO Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin, where he was on an artist residency co-organized with Goyki 3 Art Incubator in Sopot. He lives in Hanoi. <\/p>\n\n

The Nh\u00e0 S\u00e0n Collective’s male and female artists are also participating in the project, including Phan Th\u1ea3o Nguy\u00ean<\/strong>, Nguy\u1ec5n Trinh Thi<\/strong>, Nguy\u1ec5n Duy Anh<\/strong>, Nguyen Tan Hoang<\/strong>, Vu T.Thu Ha<\/strong>, Quynh Dong<\/strong>, T\u1ea1 Minh \u0110\u1ee9c<\/strong> and others.<\/p>\n\n

Curator: Stanis\u0142aw Ruksza<\/strong> \u2013 curator of exhibitions, art historian, author of texts, lecturer. Director of TRAFO Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin since 2017 and chief curator of the institution. Program director of the CCA Kronika in Bytom from 2008-2017. Studied art history at the Jagiellonian University. Since 2021, Chairman of the Academic Council of the Academy of Art in Szczecin. Curator of many exhibitions at home and abroad. He lectures at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. His research focuses on the relationship of art to social and political changes, contemporary iconoclasm, the issue of sexuality and death, and boundary phenomena in contemporary art. Resident at apexart in New York (2009), Careof DOCVA in Milan (2013, 2015) and Cit\u00e9 internationale des arts in Paris (2017), MeetFactory in Prague (2018), Guangzhou Academy Of Fine Arts (2024). He lives in Szczecin. <\/p>\n\n

    Why is it worth it?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

    In a world full of simplifications and stereotypes, Let’s Sleep and We’ll See<\/em> proposes another language – the language of dreams, queer imagination and shared memory. It is not just an exhibition, but a space of encounter: between cultures, biographies, communities and perspectives. <\/p>\n\n

    It is also an attempt to give voice to one of the most numerous and still underrepresented communities in Poland \u2013 people of Vietnamese descent.<\/p>\n\n

    Let’s Sleep and We’ll See<\/em> is also a gesture to return \u2013 artistically and emotionally \u2013 to Lodz, the city where Nguy\u1ec5n Qu\u1ed1c Th\u00e0nh began his Polish journey.<\/p>\n\n

      • Guided tour with audio description 12 October (Sunday) at 2 p.m.A guided tour with live audio description is a tour supplemented with a verbal description of the visuals. This allows people with visual impairments to explore the exhibition and learn what a given work of art looks like before being presented with interpretative themes, contexts, and the artist’s and curator’s intentions.The tour will be led by Katarzyna M\u0105drzycka-Adamczyk \u2013 artist, educator, accessibility leader, audio describer of works of art, primarily contemporary art, museum objects and theatre performances. In 2010-2023, she was an assistant professor in the Education Department at the Museum of Art in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, and in 2020-2023, she was also the Accessibility Coordinator. She is the creator of audio descriptions for, among others, the Museum of Art in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, the Museum of Artistic Books, the New Theatre in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, and the Silesian Theatre in Katowice. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
