Performance <\/h2>\n\n

What is it about?<\/h2>\n\n

\u201cSPAfrica\u201d is a sharp, subversive, and deeply political performance by Julian Hetzel and Ntando Cele that explores the entanglement of capitalism and racism. The starting point is a fictional marketing campaign: the world\u2019s first empathy drink\u2014premium drinking water from South Africa, imported to Europe in exchange for the tears of white Europeans. These tears, shed in response to poverty and injustice, are imagined to become rain\u2014liquid empathy\u2014falling on the African landscape.SPAfrica blends documentary theatre, cabaret, and performance art. It critiques stereotypical representations of Black people, satirizes the consumerist version of solidarity, and fiercely confronts modern colonialism and the exploitation of resources. Ntando Cele draws the audience into a game laced with dark humor\u2014a game that can\u2019t be won without confronting one\u2019s own perspective. <\/p>\n\n

By whom?<\/h2>\n\n

Julian Hetzel<\/strong> \u2013 German artist, performer, and director. He creates politically charged projects at the intersection of theatre, music, and media. His works have been presented in over 20 countries. Founder of Studio Julian Hetzel (Utrecht). <\/p>\n\n

Ntando Cele<\/strong> \u2013 South African performer and director based in Bern. She combines elements of political theatre, music, and comedy. Her performances have been presented in cities such as Berlin, S\u00e3o Paulo, Prague, and London. <\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s a performance about \u201cbuying\u201d a clear conscience\u2014and about how true commitment begins where comfort ends.This is an event that stays with the audience\u2014not just in the mind, but in the body. With humor, irony, and powerful stage presence, SPAfrica challenges what seems obvious and invites us to rethink the world we live in. <\/p>\n\n
